Denture Relining
Restore Comfort and Fit Without Replacing Your Dentures
Over time, the shape of your mouth naturally changes, and dentures that once fit perfectly can begin to feel loose, uncomfortable, or unstable. If your dentures are giving you trouble, a denture reline is often the fastest and most affordable solution. At Berlanga Dentures, our denturists at Parkland Denture Center in Tacoma and Meridian Denture Center in Puyallup provide both soft and hard relines to reshape the underside of your denture and restore a snug, comfortable fit.
We can reline dentures even if you didn't originally purchase them from us.
What Is Denture Relining?
Denture relining is a simple, affordable procedure that reshapes the tissue-contacting surface of your denture so it better conforms to the current shape of your gums and underlying bone. As your jawbone gradually changes following tooth loss, your dentures can lose their original fit. A reline corrects this without requiring a completely new denture. If you've been wearing the same dentures for five or more years, a reline is very likely needed. The longer a reline is put off, the more discomfort, oral health concerns, and adhesive dependence you may experience.
Types of Denture Relines
Soft Denture Reline: A soft reline is the most popular choice, particularly for patients with sensitive gums. We use Molloplast B, one of the most highly regarded soft reline materials available, to add a cushioning layer between your denture and your gum tissue. Soft relines are completed in-office and provide immediate comfort. Because the material is soft and somewhat porous, occasional touchups may be needed over time.
Hard Denture Reline: A hard reline uses a material similar to your denture's existing base, providing a more durable, longer-lasting result. While slightly firmer than a soft reline, it is considered the more permanent option and is a great fit for patients whose gums tolerate a firmer surface comfortably.
Why Would I Need My Dentures Relined?
When natural teeth are removed, the body begins to reabsorb the jawbone that once supported them. Over the years, this gradual bone loss changes the contours of your gum tissue. Meaning dentures that fit perfectly when new, no longer match the shape of your mouth.
Poorly fitting dentures can lead to:
Gum irritation and persistent sore spots
Mouth ulcers and fungal infections
Increased reliance on denture adhesive
Difficulty chewing, speaking, or smiling comfortably
Trapped bacteria that raise the risk of gum disease
A timely reline prevents these complications, protects your oral health, and extends the useful life of your dentures significantly.
