Reasons to Reconsider All-on-4 Dental Implants

Berlanga Implant Denture

Here at Berlanga Dentures we do not offer All-on-4 dentures implants. There are many reasons why.

An “All-on-4” refers to a denture implant that replaces an entire row of teeth with just four dental implants. They may sound amazing, “you get all your teeth back, you don’t have to worry about moving dentures, and sometimes you can have them done in a day”... These are some of the marketing phrases often used for the all-on-4. However, there are many significant drawbacks to the all-on-4, which is why we don’t recommend them.

You may have heard about all-on-4 from your dentist or seen the many advertisements from larger chain denture labs, but much of the marketing for the all-on-4 is all about the hype with little to no mention of the drawbacks.

The Drawbacks to All-on-4 Denture Implants

They Are Very Expensive

Did you know that the average price of an all-on-4 denture in the US and Canada is between $23,000 and $33,000 per arch? The all-on-4 is very popular right now because they’re very marketable and bring big bucks to those who provide them. Dentists with very little experience with oral surgeries are trying to get in on the practice, which means lack of experience in oral surgery and experience with dentures. And the large chains can turn a big profit at little expense. Additionally, as the years go by, if you have any issues with your all-on-4, the costs are very high. The average cleaning is roughly $10,000.

Keep in mind, the all-on-4 prosthetic is not user-removable. In other words, if you need to have them adjusted, cleaned or repaired, you will have to go to dentist or denture lab that specializes in the all-on-4, and you will pay top dollar for these services.

They Are Hard To Clean

The all-on-4 is permanent, which means you cannot take the teeth out to clean them. Many of the marketing messages say they are, “just like your real teeth.” They are not. Nothing can replace your natural teeth. The all-on-4 fits tightly, but food and bacteria can still lodge under and around the prosthetic. This can cause bad breath, irritability, and a general sense that your mouth is not clean. If you want to have them cleaned, you will need to have them professionally removed, cleaned, and replaced. This is Not Cheap. Expenses for this procedure can be in the thousands.

They Are Not One-Size-Fits-All

Be wary of the claims that all-on-4 dental implants are a one-size-fits-all solution. Age, bone type, and lifestyle goals can all play a part in determining the most suitable treatment type for you. If your dentist or denturist isn’t taking these into account, you’re not getting the best treatment possible.

Bone volume plays a crucial role in eligibility for all-on-4 (and any dental implant, for that matter). Without sufficient, healthy bone, implants can’t properly provide support. Because the all-on-4 is anchoring an entire upper or lower teeth replacement on just 4 implants, they need to have very healthy bone to fuse into. Without that bone health and volume at the front of the jaw, the implants will likely fail.

Berlanga Dentures Recommends Removable Implants

Dental Implants are small medical-grade titanium posts that serve as tooth root replacements and are screwed into your jawbone at the places where your teeth are missing or have been extracted, providing better stabilization. Your dentures are then attached to these dental implants, preventing the loose or shifting feeling that often plagues patients with dentures. With a set of durable dental implants, your dentures look, feel, and function more like your natural teeth.

We will work with you to determine the best implant solution for your situation, health, specifications, requirements, and aesthetics. We will help you choose the right type for YOU. Our implant solutions are reasonably priced, just call for a quote.
